Lenovo Phab 2 VS Lenovo K5 Note – Phablet or Note?

Lenovo started with laptops but now are known for mobile phones. They have all kinds of phones from low budget to mid-range to high range. Today, we are going to compare two mid-range phones from Lenovo; Lenovo Phab 2 and Lenovo K5 Note

Design and Display:

Lenovo Phab 2 is a phablet with a metallic body. It has a screen size of 6.4 inches with dimensions of 175.00 x 89.50 x 5.50 mm. It is thinner than Lenovo K5 Note with a thickness of 5.50mm, but it is heavier than Lenovo K5 Note with a weight of 225 grams. It is available in two colours- Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey.

Lenovo Phab 2 has HD display with screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The display is disappointing with a pixel density of 229 ppi. Since it is a phablet, we were expecting much better display with larger pixel density.

Lenovo K5 Note also has a metallic body with a screen size smaller than that of Phab 2. It has a screen size of 5.5 inches and the dimensions of 152.00 x 75.70 x 8.49mm. It is lighter in weight and weighs 152 grams. It is available in three colours- gold, gray, and silver.

Lenovo K5 Note has Full High Definition display (FHD) with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Even with a smaller display of 5.5 inches, it has a larger pixel density of 401 ppi. Larger pixel density means better and sharper pictures. Lenovo K5 Note is protected by the scratch resistant display. Both the devices use IPS LCD display.

About the appearance, there is no branding on the front side for either of the phone. In Lenovo Phab 2, 5MP front camera lies on the right side of earpiece whereas in K5 Note it lies on the left side of the earpiece. There is no physical home button for either of the phone. There are three capacitive keys with back key on the left side in Lenovo Phab 2 and on the right side in Lenovo K5 Note. For both the devices, the power and volume key lie on the right side and SIM tray on the left.

Flipping the devices, the back cover is non-removable for both the devices. In Lenovo Phab 2, there is no fingerprint scanner, whereas in Lenovo K5 Note fingerprint scanner lies below the rear camera.

Performance:

Lenovo Phab 2 uses MediaTek MT8735 whereas Lenovo K5 Note uses MediaTek MT6755 chipset. Lenovo Phab 2 has a Quad core, 1.3 GHz processor whereas K5 Note has a better configuration with 1.8Ghz Octa Core processor. Again, K5 Note has bigger RAM of 4 GB and Phab 2 has only 3 GB. Even for graphics, K5 Note has better GPU.

Software:

Both the devices run on Android Marshmallow (6.0) with its own VIBE UI on top.

Camera and Storage:

They have similar rear camera configuration of 13MP camera. Both feature CMOS image sensor and Phase Detection Autofocus. They also support continuous shooting, HDR, autoflash and have an image resolution of 4128 x 3096 Pixels. They both lack optical stabilization. Lenovo Phab 2 has LED flash whereas Lenovo K5 Note has Dual Colour LED flash. Again, they both capture videos at 1920×1080 @ 30 fps.

Both the devices have different front camera configuration with Lenovo Phab 2 having 5MP front camera and K5 Note having 8MP camera. Both the devices lack front flash.

For storage, Lenovo Phab 2 has internal memory of 32 GB, which can be expanded up to 128 GB. But the SD card slot is a hybrid one.  In K5 Note, the internal memory is of 32 GB with a normal expandable slot up to 128 GB.

Battery and Connectivity:

The battery is one segment where Lenovo Phab 2 is ahead of K5 Note. Phab 2 has 4050mAH battery whereas Lenovo K5 note has 3500mAH battery. Both the devices lack quick charging and wireless charging. Also, both the devices have a non-removable battery.

For connectivity in Lenovo Phab 2, users will get dual SIM slots with both slots supporting 4G. It also has VOLTE. It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. Here, you get dual SIM, but with a hybrid SIM tray, which means you cannot use both the SIMs and microSD card together. This is a disadvantage of this phone compared to K5 Note where you can use both the SIM cards

Lenovo K5 Note is also a Dual SIM phone with normal SIM slot. Connectivity options include GPS with A-GPS and Glonass, Bluetooth v4.1, microUSB 2.0. Both of the phones have FM Radio.

The Verdict:

One should carefully choose the phone depending on his/ her requirements. If you want a smartphone with a big display for watching videos and movies, then go for Lenovo Phab 2, but if you want a device with good performance, then go for Lenovo K5 Note. Lenovo K5 Note also has a normal SIM slot rather than a hybrid slot used in Phab 2.
